I am so sorry for the lack of updates - time just seems to be flying by! The students have been very busy working on lots of really neat things! The grade 5s created somereally cool Optical art. Also, last week, the students wrote newspaper articles and interviews of people they admire.
In Science, the grade 5s have just started experimenting with matter - we have a fantastic experiment (or 2) coming up this week - I think things may get a little messy. Meanwhile, the grade 6s have been learning more about the Sun, the Moon, and the Earth. They also created some beautiful sketches of the phases of the moon. I can't wait for their presentations on their constellations!
In Social Studies, the grade 5s learned more about Ancient Egyptian Gods - I am very excited to see your presentations on this topic - I hope you remember to dress up! The grade 6s have been comparing various Aboriginal tribes, they also created some beautiful artwork based on the Aboriginal artist Norval Morriseau. I was blown away by how beautiful these pieces are!
J'espère que vous passez une bonne fin de semaine! À demain!

Merci aux parents!

Thank you to all of the parents who came out yesterday for program night. It was great meeting you and I am looking forward to working together to help your child succeed. Don't forget it's the welcome back family pizza night tonight - sounds like it will be lots of fun!
Yesterday the grade 5s made their mummies! We had lots of fun and there were no tears despite the sacrifices. We hope they enjoy their after life!
Check out the art slide show to find your masterpiece!

Une semaine de partie...
Wow! What a busy first week we have had!We have been working on our routines, getting to know each other, reviewing the verbs être and avoir and making some really cool art! The grade 5s and 6s each made their own colour wheels to show primary, secondary and tertiary colours.
While the grade 5s used modelling clay, the grade 6s used cookies and frosting! They were all spectacular! The grade 5s also learned about the late abstract expressionist Jackson Pollock and tried to reproduce his action painting style by using marbles, toothbrushes and st
raws! I think there are some abstract artists among us! Meanwhile, the grade 6s learned about 1 point perspective and created their own cube art. I can't wait to post these pictures on the blog next week!We have a short week coming up. The grade 6s are responsible for the mass on Thursday, I am sure they will make me proud :) I am hoping that we will have the chance our Social Studies and Science units, keep your fingers crossed! We will also be reviewing various reading strategies. I hope you are getting lots of rest this weekend as you will be working hard this week!
Bonne longue fin de semaine! Mme
