Déjà le milieu d'octobre!

Wow! Time is flying by what with the two short weeks we just had!!! We have been very busy in class! This week, we will be finishing our biographies, reviewing descriptive words and learning how visualization can help us become better readers. The grade 6s will be learning how to write an interview report while the grade 5s will be focusing on newspaper articles. The grade 6s will also working on their Planet Photostories and learning all about the Great North (Inuit people, Northern Lights and Inuksuks). Hopefully we will have the chance to create some art inspired by the Great North as well! Meanwhile, the grade 5s will be working on wrapping up our Science and Social Studies units. I hope you are all ready to test your knowledge with an electronic Jeopardy game!

Tomorrow you will be placed into groups to build a scale model of an Aboriginal (gr 6) or an Egyptian (gr 5) village. You are asked to bring in any materials that could be useful in building your model by next Monday.

I am very anxious to get started on this busy week! Mme :)

Coke et Mentos

Last week, the grade 5s got to have a Coke and Mentos face-off. Each team was given a different product - Coke, Diet Coke, Pepsi and Diet Pepsi. While Diet Pepsi won the face off, Diet Coke did have some malfunctions... Either way, we had a great time watching the chemical reactions - it was also fun to see the big mess we made :)

Here is the video we watched in class - hope you enjoy it!

Le temps passe vite!

I am so sorry for the lack of updates - time just seems to be flying by! The students have been very busy working on lots of really neat things! The grade 5s created somereally cool Optical art. Also, last week, the students wrote newspaper articles and interviews of people they admire.

In Science, the grade 5s have just started experimenting with matter - we have a fantastic experiment (or 2) coming up this week - I think things may get a little messy. Meanwhile, the grade 6s have been learning more about the Sun, the Moon, and the Earth. They also created some beautiful sketches of the phases of the moon. I can't wait for their presentations on their constellations!

In Social Studies, the grade 5s learned more about Ancient Egyptian Gods - I am very excited to see your presentations on this topic - I hope you remember to dress up! The grade 6s have been comparing various Aboriginal tribes, they also created some beautiful artwork based on the Aboriginal artist Norval Morriseau. I was blown away by how beautiful these pieces are!

J'espère que vous passez une bonne fin de semaine! À demain!

Mme :)
